We’ve all (mainly) recovered from the initial shock from the first Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again trailer that let us know Meryl Streep’s character, Donna, passed away. And while we’re all super sad about a movie that will, perhaps, center around a memorial service rather than a cheerful wedding, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again looks like it will retain the same joy and free spirit of the original as it follows Donna’s daughter, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), while she remembers her mom — and gets ready to have a baby of her own.

While half of the story follows Sophie, it also flashes back to younger Donna (played by Lily James). In an attempt to feel more connected with her late mother, Sophie visits Kalokairi, where Donna’s best friends Tanya and Rose spill all of the details of Donna’s infamous 1979 summer, when she first met each of Sophie’s potential biological dads.

This second trailer gives us a bit of a better glimpse into who Donna was in her younger years.

Not to mention, how she managed to build a life in a new place, find new friends, and care for a brand new baby. And of course, since this film is set largely in the ’70s, it is full of bell bottoms, fringe, and heaps of disco goodness. And nothing says disco goodness like the band ABBA, so just like the first film, the musical numbers will come to us courtesy of some classic ABBA tracks that didn’t make it the first go around.

The Mamma Mia! sequel looks like it is going to be another outrageous, disco-filled romp through the Greek isles, and we just can’t wait. Even though we’re super sad that Queen Meryl won’t be returning to the film, James seems to be doing a great job taking up the mantle and playing Donna. Plus, with the addition of Cher to the cast, the movie is definitely going to be filling its diva quota.

We’re so ready to travel back to Kalokairi when the film debuts in theaters on July 20th, 2018!
