Madelaine Petsch is hitting the big screen for a horror comedy film—both as the star and executive producer. Petsch, who portrays Riverdale High School’s popular teen Cheryl Blossom on the CW’s hit series Riverdale, has been cast in the titular role in the upcoming horror comedy film Clare at 16. In a statement, Petsch said,
Based on Don Roff’s upcoming novel of the same name, Clare at 16 follows Catholic high schooler Clare Bleeker (Petsch), an orphan who lives with her grandparents and, on the surface, “seems normal.” However, Clare is soon “confronted by the evil she faces in her small town,” according to Deadline’s exclusive. Is anyone else picking up on the Riverdale vibes?
Clare at 16 will be directed by Mark Pavia, who worked on Stephen King’s 1997 fantasy film The Night Flier. The film will be co-produced by Mudbound’s Cassian Elwes, who said of Petsch’s casting: “Petsch is a huge star and she is perfect to bring Clare to life. I knew it had potential but Petsch is going to take this to another level.” A release date for the film has not yet been announced.
Petsch can be seen now in the third season of Riverdale, the CW’s teen drama series based on characters from the Archie Comics. With her new role as star and executive producer, the Southside Serpents must be so proud.
