Obviously when you love something so much and with all your heart, you want *more* of whatever it is — whether it’s ice cream, puppies, or the brand new movie Love, Simon. While you can go to Target for more ice cream, and hit up your local adoption center for a pupper, there’s no real protocol for any sort of Love, Simon sequel but wishing, and hoping, and praying for it.
If you’ve already been doing all of those things, then here’s some good news: A sequel to the instantly-beloved film isn’t completely off the table. But, it’s not exactly in the works — at least not yet.
Here’s something you might not realize about the book Love, Simon is based off of, Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda: It’s actually part of a series. YES, this good news for those of you looking to get your hands on more Simon Spier right now. The book, written by Becky Albertalli, actually has two more counterparts, The Upside of Unrequited which follows Abby Suso’s cousin, Molly; there’s also Leah on the Offbeat which will follow Simon’s best friend Leah, and is scheduled to be released next month.
And oh yes, the cast of Love, Simon couldn’t help but bring that up to Albertalli when she visited the film’s set, with Nick Robinson joking that the next one is “Love, Leah.”
“I’d come back,” Katherine Landford jumps in — and that’s good, because she’d be playing Leah. “I loved [working with you guys].”
Director Greg Berlanti is also game for more, because according to him, “I think for me right now…there’s not a final punctuation mark on the story. But we have to see how it does. But I would work with any of these people again in a second.”
You hear that? This might not be the last we hear from Simon, Leah, Abby, Nick — and Bram!!
