Sometimes it’s hard for a guy and girl to convince the world that they’re just friends — but if Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran can do it, there’s hope for Lorde and Jack Antonoff. Antonoff recently broke off a five-year relationship with Girls creator Lena Dunham, and some fans now suspect he may be dating fellow musician Lorde…which would potentially be kinda complicated, since Lorde and Lena Dunham are known to be good friends.
In a candid essay for Vogue, Dunham addressed both the split and her recent health struggles. “I can feel us growing slowly apart, since life is so determined to display its full complexity right now,” she wrote in the piece, which focused on her decision to get a hysterectomy. “I am surly and distant. I offer nothing. He reminds me again and again that I am still a woman and still alive, but I also know that soon — for so many reasons that have nothing to do with my uterus — we’ll slip away from each other and I will face everything I am losing in impossibly tiny steps.”
Antonoff worked with Lorde on her latest album, Melodrama. Parts of the album were reportedly recorded at his home studio in Brooklyn. And despite the fact that they’ve seemed a little touchy-feely while out together, Lorde wants to set the record straight.
Going live on Instagram last night, February 22nd, Lorde noted that there’s nothing romantic happening between the two.
So there you have it. Lorde and Jack Antonoff are just friends, and we can lay this one to rest. Now let’s focus on more important things — like how Lorde just won a BRIT Award for Best International Female Solo Artist and is currently on her super successful Melodrama World Tour.
