Emma Roberts and Hayden Christensen made a rom-com about pizza, and Twitter can't believe it's a real movie
There are a lot of movies to look forward to in 2018. Summer movie season is about to kick into high gear, and we cannot wait. We’re looking forward to Solo: A Star Wars Story, because we love Star Wars AND we love Donald Glover. We are holding our breath for the all-female Ocean’s 8. Incredibles 2 is finally almost here and Jeff Goldblum joined the cast of Jurassic World. But that movie excitement doesn’t even take into account what’s coming later this year. We can’t wait for films like Crazy Rich Asians, Venom, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Mary Poppins Returns, and…Little Italy? Allow us to explain.
Some movies slip under the radar and go completely unnoticed until the internet takes note. Little Italy is one of those movies. The rom-com stars Emma Roberts and Hayden Christensen (where have you been, bud?) as Nikki and Leo.
“A young couple must navigate a blossoming romance, amidst a war between their families’ competing pizza restaurants,” the Little Italy IMDb page states. The cast also includes Alyssa Milano, Jane Seymour, Andrea Martin, and Danny Aiello. So you know it’s going to be good.
Despite the movie’s stellar cast, Twitter still sort of can’t believe that Little Italy is real. Maybe it’s because it feels like it came out of nowhere. Or maybe it’s the Little Italy movie poster, which looks sort of like a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie poster, TBH.
But to be completely real, we will absolutely see Little Italy.
A romantic comedy about pizza? That’s the dream. But for those of you Julia Roberts fans out there, you may notice something quite interesting about Emma Roberts’ shirt in the movie poster. Could this be a VERY intentional Mystic Pizza reference? It has to be, right? Mystic Pizza was Julia’s first starring role, and we love that her niece is giving her a pretty clear shoutout.
Some people were quick to point out some similarities between Little Italy and a few other pizza ~classics.~
If the Mystic Pizza T-shirt wasn’t a clear enough reference, it actually turns out the movies share a director.
Could Little Italy actually be a Mystic Pizza spin-off?
Either way, we can’t wait to see it. There is no official release date for Little Italy yet (IMDb just says “2018”), but we can’t wait to eat pizza and fall in love with it.
After all, we deserve this kind of joy.
