Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar acceptance speech had some important words about the environment
All around the world people breathed a sigh of relief as Leonardo DiCaprio finally, finally was awarded an Oscar for Actor in a Leading Role for The Revenant. As he walked to the stage, we all had the same thought: after all this time, what is he going to say? Turns out, he didn’t just want to speak about himself. He had an important message to spread as well.
“Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship to the natural world,” he said, after thanking all of the important people in his life. “A world that we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in recorded history. Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow.”
He went on to explain how we all should take action to prevent this world-threatening problem:
His words are powerful, and even more moving because they accompany such a historic moment. “Let us not take this planet for granted,” he concluded. “I do not take tonight for granted.” And Leo, we could never take you for granted for all you’ve done for the world of acting and beyond.
