Lady Gaga is known for putting on performances that stop hearts and grab the full attention of those in the room, and her Sunday night rendition of “Til It Happens to You” was no exception. The singer was up for an Oscar for Best Original Song and used her time on stage to make a powerful statement about sexual assault.

The song itself was featured in The Hunting Ground, a documentary about sexual assault on American college campuses. While on stage, Lady Gaga brought out real survivors of sexual assault to illustrate how prevalent this issue is, and how loudly all of us are going to fight back.

The performance touched the hearts of everyone in the room, as well as all of us at home who witnessed such a powerful moment. We have nothing but admiration and thanks for the singer who is doing the important work of giving a voice to those who need to be heard.
