Even though she’s been in a relationship with Christian Carino since early 2017, Lady Gaga’s ex-fiancé, Taylor Kinney, has nothing but love for her as she embarks on her first big-screen role in A Star Is Born. In fact, when Kinney was asked about his famous ex and her onscreen success, he was super supportive, revealing that even though he hasn’t yet seen the film, he’s “really proud” of her accomplishments.
On Saturday, October 6th, E! News caught up with the Chicago Fire star at the 2018 Carousel of Hope Ball in Los Angeles, and he reminded us that—before she was an international pop sensation—Gaga had dreams of becoming an actor. Gaga studied acting at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts before breaking through in the music industry, and Kinney said, “She studied acting before music…so I know it’s been a lifelong passion.” He added that while he hasn’t yet seen the film (it was only released the day before the interview), “I’m seeing the reviews, I’m seeing the trailers, it’s all over the place, so I could only wish her the best. And yeah, I’m really proud.”
Kinney echoed a similar sentiment to Access Hollywood at the same event, saying, that he’s “very proud” of Gaga. He added, “I know it’s been in the works for a long time…and hats off to Bradley Cooper and her, and I hope it surpasses expectations…and I know that the story’s been around—I know this is the third adaptation—I know they’ve done something different with it, and much success. I’m a proud person.”
It’s amazing to see exes supporting each other post-breakup, and it seems these two have a ton of respect for one another. Though they split in 2016 after five years of dating, Kinney was spotted at Gaga’s Chicago concert in August 2017 after they’d called off their engagement, and Gaga has said she’s reluctant to call him an “ex”, because they still “love each other.”
Ex goals, indeed.
