The latest remake of A Star Is Born hit theaters in October, immediately capturing/breaking our hearts. It was an instant hit, with Lady Gaga receiving critical acclaim for her performance. And with less than 10 days until the 2019 Oscars (Gaga is nominated for Best Actress) the pop star got a new tattoo worthy of Ally Maine herself. On February 14th, the 32-year-old singer debuted her new ink on Instagram—a long-stemmed rose running down her back with “la vie en rose” written in cursive alongside it. She credited artist Daniel Winter (aka Winter Stone) with the piece.
If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll likely remember that a pivotal (if not, the most pivotal) Jack/Ally scene takes place during Ally’s performance of Édith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose” at a drag bar. It’s the first song she sings in the movie, and her powerhouse vocals, coupled with the awestruck expression on Bradley Cooper’s face, make it one of the film’s most unforgettable scenes.
Cooper and Gaga have a personal connection to the song, too. According to Billboard, the A Star Is Born director was first inspired to cast Gaga as Ally when he heard her sing “La Vie en Rose” at a fundraiser in entrepreneur Sean Parker’s home. With this in mind, the singer’s latest tattoo seems even more meaningful. Love the new ink, Gaga, and we’re wishing you all the luck at the 2019 Oscars.
