Greta Gerwig can't stop crying about "Lady Bird's" Oscar nominations, and the feelings are real
In case we haven’t made it clear yet, we are completely (and forever will be) obsessed with Lady Bird, the poignant coming-of-age film written and directed by the amazing Greta Gerwig, and starring the ever-so-lovely Saoirse Ronan.
With a moving and relatable story and authentic performances, Lady Bird managed to clinch win after win this awards season, taking home multiple awards including (but not limited to) a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and Best Actress for Saoirse Ronan, a National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress for Laurie Metcalf, and a Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Filmmaker for Greta Gerwig.
And it doesn’t end there. Lady Bird has once again soared high, snagging five Oscar nominations this morning, January 23rd: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress (Ronan), and Best Supporting Actress (Laurie Metcalf). Naturally, we’re ugly-crying and jumping out of happiness over the film’s well-deserved noms.
And it turns out that Greta is too!
Well, Greta, believe it, because you totally deserve it!
With this nomination, she goes down in history as the fifth female director ever to be nominated in the Best Director category. And she wants to give credit to all the female filmmakers who gave her the courage to do what she loves.
More than anything, she says she wants to celebrate the Lady Bird nominations with the cast and crew.
The team that worked so hard in producing such an outstanding film.
To be sure, Greta. And also, YOU’RE amazing.
