Reality star icon and political activist Kim Kardashian is no stranger to a nude shoot, but her latest one has a pretty surprising backstory…and it has to do with Donald Trump.

Kardashian appears on the cover of the 20th-anniversary issue of Richardson magazine; the photos were shot by legendary photographer Steven Klein earlier this year. Back in May, Kardashian revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that it was at this very photo shoot that she got the call from Trump telling her that he would grant clemency to Alice Johnson, a non-violent drug offender serving a life sentence in prison. Because getting a call from the president while you’re on a nude shoot happens to all of us, right?

In October 2017, Kardashian began advocating on behalf of Johnson’s release, and in May, she met with Trump at the White House to make her case. Less than a week later, Trump agreed to pardon the one-time offender, and Kardashian and Johnson met for the first time for a joint interview on June 14th after her release.

Kardashian got the news about Johnson’s release from Trump himself while she was posing during Klein’s photo shoot, which we’re sure is a memory she won’t soon forget.

She told Kimmel, “He called me. I was at a Steven Klein photo shoot. And if anyone knows who he is, it’s pretty much a nude shoot. So, I’m naked, and my phone rings and I’m all glammed up.”

“So you were naked when Donald Trump called you?” Kimmel asked.

“I put a robe on. I was in a robe,” she clarified, adding, “And I was kind of bugging out during the shoot.”

The latest issue of Richardson is available for purchase now.
