Kim Kardashian recently posted a series of photos on Instagram to tease the upcoming release of her new perfume, KKW Body, which is set to hit stores April 30th. It’s described by Kardashian herself as what “golden” would smell like, and comes in a bottle that’s basically a sculpture of her naked body. While the concept excited fans, others were not pleased by the design. In fact, many were quick to point out that Kim may have copied the design from Jean Paul Gaultier’s 1993 perfume, Classique.

If you know anything about Kardashian, she’s not one to keep silent in times of controversy. In response to the copycat accusations, she told Cosmopolitan.com,

Like Kardashian’s KKW Body, Gaultier’s Classique also features a woman’s body without the arms, legs, or head, so the two bottles undoubtedly have similarities.

But like Kardashian said, her inspiration came from sculptures and her bottle was meant to be much more of a personal thing.

After all, the name of her fragrance is KKW Body. Putting it in a bottle shaped like the mold of her body makes perfect sense.

Kardashian isn’t the first celeb to get attention for seemingly copying Gaultier’s Classique. Back in 2012, Nicki Minaj revealed her Pink Friday and later Flirty Pink perfumes, which also featured a similar design.

Kardashian’s perfume bottle seemed to catch Gaultier’s attention as well. A photo of Classique was recently posted on his official Instagram with a caption that seemed to throw shade at Kardashian’s design: “Keeping up with the fragrance’s news! #Classique #JeanPaulGaultier.”

Interesting choice of words there.

So there you have it. Although Kardashian says she loved Gaultier’s Classique bottle, she didn’t copy the design. Instead, she got inspiration from sculptures. But as we all know, regardless of anything she says, people are still going to have their opinions. So just keep doing you, Kim!
