A state representative asked Twitter what a "furry" is, and the internet had a field day
When it comes to Twitter, we honestly never know what to expect. Some days are good, some are bad, and some are so amazing that we can’t contain our joy. Well, today is one of those blissful days. After someone referenced a “furry” in a tweet about Arizona State Representative Kelly Townsend, Townsend replied and asked for clarification on what a furry is. Twitter rallied immediately, and the reactions are totally legendary.
Rep. Townsend made headlines in April after she threatened to sue teachers who went on strike in her state. Earlier this week, she claimed that a teacher was giving interviews to a Russian news outlet. A person who performs at furry conventions responded with a point about education and socialism, which set her up for this.
“Imagine going to all this trouble to get elected to the state legislature of Arizona only to get logically destroyed by a furry,” someone tweeted to Rep. Townsend.
Then, in sheer internet glory, Rep. Townsend replied, “Please educate me as to what a furry is.”
If you aren’t aware, furries are people interested in anthropomorphized animals (or the animals themselves). According to the experts at Dictionary.com, this includes characters like Mickey Mouse or Sonic the Hedgehog, and this interest usually extends to costumes and fandom culture.
Twitter was beyond thrilled to educate Rep. Townsend, and the responses will definitely give you the LOLs.
Someone even turned Rep. Townsend INTO a furry, which is very next-level.
Rep. Townsend RTed the artwork and offered to pay the artist for their creation, which sent Twitter into ANOTHER frenzy.
When it comes to the internet, it’s pretty tough to know what to expect. However, we’re pretty sure everyone on Twitter saw this one coming, and honestly? We think it’s pretty freaking wonderful.
