Last Wednesday the suburban town of Parkland, Florida experienced one of the worst school shootings in modern American history. There, 17 people — mostly children — were killed when a lone gunman entered their school and began shooting.
In the aftermath of the tragedy people from all around the nation, and the world, have sent the community their thoughts and prayers. But JetBlue is taking it one step further by providing all family members of shooting victims free flights to Fort Lauderdale so they can be with their loved ones during this difficult time.
The airline, which the Miami Herald noted is based in Long Island City, New York but has a corporate office in Florida, is also providing free access to ground transportation via a partnership with the ridesharing company Lyft.
JetBlue added that as a company they are “honored to be able to offer assistance to the Parkland community during this difficult time.” JetBlue volunteers are available in the Family Assistance Center to book free air travel on JetBlue for victims’ families traveling to Parkland and provide access to free ground transportation with Lyft. The company noted it is also partnering with the Florida Panthers to host a blood drive at the BB&T Center on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 12-7 p.m.
