Is Kevin Smith married? 5 questions you may have after the filmmaker's heart attack
Early this morning, February 26th, director, actor, and producer Kevin Smith was hospitalized after suffering a massive heart attack. He tweeted that he’s doing okay, but the attack came incredibly close to being fatal.
47-year-old Smith struggled with his weight in the past, having dropped 85 pounds between 2010 and 2015. According to CNN, Smith began his weight-loss journey after being asked to leave a plane because he was too “big” to fit in his seat.
The filmmaker became famous after the release of his 1994 film, Clerks, which he shot at the convenience store where he worked at the time (and debuted his now iconic character, Silent Bob). He then went on to direct Mallrats in 1995, Chasing Amy in 1997, and multiple widely successful projects within the past 20 years. Currently, Smith is the executive producer and starring personality of Comic Book Men on AMC.
Here are few things other things you may want to know in light of Smith’s recent health crisis.
1Smith is married to Jennifer Schwalbach Smith.
Jennifer Schwalbach Smith is an actress who lent her talent to Clerks II, where in which she played Emma. She most recently appeared in Smith’s Yoga Hosers in 2016. The Smiths have been married since 1999.
2Smith has one daughter.
Smith and his wife have one daughter together named Harley Quinn Smith. Harley Quinn, now 18, made her acting debut in her dad’s 2001 film, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. She most recently starred alongside Lily-Rose Depp in Smith’s 2016 film Yoga Hosers.
(And yes, she is named after Harley Quinn from the Batman comics.)
3He’s from Red Banks, New Jersey.
The success of Clerks and Mallrats took Smith out to Hollywood after getting his start in his home state of New Jersey. He reportedly now lives in Hollywood Hills in a home purchased from his good friend, Ben Affleck.
4Kevin Smith’s net worth is a hefty $25 million.
According to The Richest, Smith’s net worth sits at a comfortable $25 million. Deadline reported in October of 2017 that Smith committed to donating his residual earnings from Harvey Weinstein-backed films to the non-profit organization Women in Film. Women in Film “advocates for and advances the careers of women working in the screen industries to achieve parity and transform culture,” as their mission statement reads.
5He has several projects currently in the works.
Smith’s latest horror film, Kilroy Was Here, is currently filming and he has another comedy/horror, Moose Jaws, in pre-production. The unscripted talkshow/reality show Comic Book Men is still going strong. Plus, Smith is planning to reboot his character Silent Bob in the upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Get a Reboot.
We hope Smith recovers soon and can get back to making people laugh, geeking out on comics, and bringing Silent Bob back to our screens! Sending all our healing vibes your way, Kevin.
