As the 2018 elections inch closer and closer, more political hopefuls are announcing their campaigns for Congress. And among those running is Clueless actress Stacey Dash.

The former actress will be running as a Republican for a seat in California’s (very liberal) 44th District. Here’s what we know about the star turned politician.

1 How old is she?

According to her official Twitter page, the actress was born in 1967, making her 51 years old.

2 Does Stacey Dash have kids?

Dash has a daughter and a son, both from previous relationships. She had her son, Austin Williams, in 1991 with then-boyfriend R&B singer Christopher Williams, and her daughter, Lola Lovell, in 2003 with her first husband, Brian Lovell.

3 Is she married?

Dash separated from her third husband, Emmanuel Xuereb, in 2010. She filed for divorce and a restraining order at the time, saying that Xuereb had physically abused her during their two-year marriage. The actress was previously married to Lovell from 1999 to 2005, and then James Maby from 2005 to 2006.

4 What are her political views?

Dash has publicly identified herself as a Republican since 2012, when she announced her support of Mitt Romney for president on Twitter. In 2014, Fox News hired her as a commentator, and she worked for the network until 2017.

5 Has she always been a conservative?

After Dash’s public endorsement of Romney, she told Fox News host Sean Hannity that she had voted for Barack Obama four years earlier, but that she had only supported him “because he was black.”

6 What else is she known for?

In 2016, Dash sparked controversy when she called for the elimination of Black History Month and BET. Amid the #OscarsSoWhite uproar, the actress, who has African and Bajan ancestry herself, argued on Fox & Friends that such designations only resulted in racial segregation.

During the 88th Academy Awards that same year, host Chris Rock called Dash onstage and announced her as the director of the Academy’s fictional “minority outreach program.” Dash wished the audience a “Happy Black History Month” in the awkward appearance that left many feeling confused.

7 What else has she acted in?

After playing Dionne in Clueless, the actress went on to act in the Clueless TV series and Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens, among other movies.

Although celebrities have run for political office before, it’s still unusual to see an actor make this drastic a career change. We’ll be watching Dash’s campaign to see how it unfolds.
