Admit it, you love Kerry Washington. Everyone does — even the super smart kids at Harvard!
On Wednesday, the Ivy League university’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals company announced that it loves Kerry Washington so much that the actress has officially been awarded its highest honor: the Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year award.
“The Pudding is proud to honor a talented and socially engaged film, TV and stage actress who keeps breaking barriers in Hollywood,” reads an official announcement. “The Woman of the Year Award is the Hasty Pudding Theatricals oldest honor, bestowed annually on performers who have made lasting and impressive contributions to the world of entertainment.”
Without a doubt, Washington deserves this win: Not only is she a Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actress on one of the hottest shows on television, but she also actively works with a number of organizations outside Hollywood, including the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, anti-domestic violence organization V-Day, and the Creative Coalition, a political advocacy nonprofit run by members of the entertainment industry. With all these incredible projects underway, it’s no surprise that Washington was chosen to join women like Meryl Streep, Claire Danes, Katharine Hepburn, Ella Fitzgerald, and Amy Poehler in becoming Hasty Pudding’s newest honoree.
On January 28th, Washington will arrive in Cambridge, Massachusetts for an amazing day of festivities, including a parade through the streets, a celebratory roast, an awards ceremony where she’ll receive her Pudding Pot, and a special performance of Hasty Pudding’s newest production, That 1770s Show.
Sounds like the perfect day if you ask us. Congratulations!
