Harrison Ford could feel Carrie Fisher's presence at Mark Hamill's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, and pass the tissues
Harrison Ford was on-hand to celebrate Mark Hamill’s new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and during his speech at the dedication, he gave a shout-out to the duo’s Star Wars co-star and friend, Carrie Fisher.
During his short but sweet speech, Harrison Ford spoke fondly of Hamill, calling him a “kind, sincere, honest person.” As the Indiana Jones actor spoke about what made Hamill the perfect Luke Skywalker and reflected on their screen test for A New Hope — which effectively launched the careers of the original Star Wars trio — he paid tribute to Fisher, who passed away in December 2016.
During his speech celebrating Hamill, Star Wars creator George Lucas also reminisced about the trio during the filming of the original Star Wars trilogy. Referencing the the chemistry between Hamill, Ford, and Fisher, he joked that it was like “high school chemistry, where something goes off in the background and people are trying to hide the flames.”
Joining Ford and Lucas in honoring Hamill with his star were The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, current Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran, and Fisher’s daughter and fellow Star Wars actress Billie Lourd. R2-D2 and a pair of Stormtroopers were also on-hand to celebrate Hamill’s achievement.
After the ceremony, Lourd took to Instagram to celebrate her “space uncle” in the emoji-filled stylings of her late mother.
It’s so clear that despite their many ups and downs over the last 40 years, Hamill, Ford, and Fisher — not to mention George Lucas — meant a lot to each other and we’re so glad Harrison Ford took the time to remember the late actress during the occasion.
