In unexpected albeit delightful news, writer and director Greta Gerwig and partner Noah Baumbach have welcomed their first child. Gerwig’s rep confirmed the news to People today, March 21st. Neither Gerwig, 35, nor Baumbach, 49, had revealed they were expecting before the birth announcement.

Gerwig was the fifth woman ever to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for her 2017 film Lady Bird, and she’s currently directing the upcoming Little Women remake (for which she also penned the script). Basically, this has been a huge couple years for Gerwig, and now there’s a new addition to her family to celebrate to boot.

Gerwig and Baumbach have been quietly coupled up for years and have collaborated numerous times. They met when Baumbach cast Gerwig in his 2010 film Greenberg…and the rest is history. When speaking about their creative dynamic in a 2013 interview with The Globe and Mail, Gerwig has said,

“You can’t account for it; it’s almost like a third party enters into it,” she said.

This is Gerwig’s first child and Baumbach’s second (he has a son, Rohmer, with actress Jennifer Jason Leigh). So many congrats, guys.
