If you haven’t already seen Lady Bird, find a way to watch it immediately; not only because it received five Academy Awards nominations, but also because it’s truly a great film. If you have seen Lady Bird and loved it, you’re probably a pretty big fan of Greta Gerwig right now. Luckily for you, she’s an extremely talented actress and director who has starred in or been behind the scenes of a bunch of great movies. There are actually a few Greta Gerwig movies you can stream right now if you’re interested.

Gerwig made headlines this year when she became only the fifth woman to ever be nominated for Best Director at the 2018 Oscars (for her work on Lady Bird). Because of this, it’s easy to forget that Gerwig is known for much more than just this honor, but Lady Bird was actually Gerwig’s directorial debut (she also wrote it!). Before that, she starred in several other films, receiving a Golden Globe nomination for her role in Frances Ha in 2012.

One really interesting thing to know about Gerwig is that she never went to film school (she originally wanted to be a playwright), and she doesn’t have any formal directorial training — and here she is, nominated for Best Director! That’s pretty amazing. If you’re feeling more than a little intrigued about this Hollywood star, watch these movies she either stars, co-directed, or co-wrote. You can stream them all right now!

1. Frances Ha

Although this isn’t Gerwig’s first work, it is the movie that put her on the map. Shot in black and white, Frances Ha is a comedy about a woman living in Brooklyn who is searching for an apartment she can stay in, a good job, and a great relationship. It’s a great indie movie and got tons of attention when it first came out. Gerwig co-wrote this movie and also starred in it — and she did a great job portraying the character of Frances.

You can watch this on Netflix.

2. The Humbling

The Humbling is based on a novel by Phillip Roth — Gerwig stars in the film alongside Al Pacino. The movie is about an older stage actor (Pacino) who is trying to find a passion for life. He ends up finding it in a young lesbian woman (Gerwig), but he has a hard time keeping up with her.

You can watch this on Netflix.

3. To Rome With Love

To Rome With Love is a Woody Allen movie (he directs and stars in it), so if you’re not interested in hearing anything about his work right now, you won’t want to watch this one. The film is about four different stories, each set in Rome. Gerwig acts alonside Alec Baldwin, Jesse Eisenberg, and Ellen Page in a kind of confusing love triangle type of deal. For the record, Gerwig has said she seriously regrets working with Allen on this film.

You can watch this on Netflix.

4. 20th Century Women

This comedy-drama film is set in 1979 in Santa Barbara, California. Gerwig stars as Abbie, a free-spirited artist. It’s an emotional film about family, all different kinds of people coming together, and, of course, women.

5. Jackie

Jackie is the story of Jackie Kennedy after her husband’s assassination. Gerwig has a role in the film, although most of it focuses on the character of Jackie. The film has gotten tons of attention and is definitely worth watching.

You can watch this on HBO Go.

6. Nights and Weekends

Gerwig co-directed, co-wrote, and co-produced Nights and Weekends, which came out in 2008. She also stars in the film, which is about the problems that come with a long distance relationship.

You can watch this on Amazon.

7. Mistress America

For Mistress America, Gerwig collaborated with Noah Baumbach — she was a co-writer for the movie, served as his on-and off-screen muse, and starred in the film. It’s kind of an odd-ball comedy film, in which a young woman (played by Gerwig) takes her soon-to-be step-sister on a crazy adventure. Like so many of Gerwig’s best roles, her character is a little wacky.

So, excuse us… we have a movie marathon to get to!
