Gigi Hadid recently split with her long-term boyfriend Zayn Malik and we wonder if that spurned the anti-social media mantra she carries with her now. Hadid was spotted walking around Manhattan with an interesting message on her phone. On it, a sticker that read: social media seriously harms your mental health. We’ve never seen Hadid’s phone before so she could have had this for ages and it could have nothing to do with her breakup, but, that being said, it’s an interesting mantra to keep on your person. Hadid isn’t the only celebrity to echo this statement: Selena Gomez called social media her “most difficult relationship” and has been vocal on how it sometimes negatively affects her mental health.

Hadid actually announced in December 2017 that she was taking a break from social media.

Despite her recent social media break and aversion to it, Hadid is clearly back on Instagram. She shared this happy snap three days ago.

It’s interesting for us normals to hear a celebrity reveal that they have a toxic relationship with social media. The common complaint with Instagram, specifically, is the portrayal of ultra-perfect and filtered lives that make the viewer feel worse about their own unfiltered, everyday experience.

Hadid’s December interview shed some light on why she has such a hard time with social media.

“At the end of the day I’m choosing what I’m showing you. A lot of the world feels so entitled to other peoples’ lives, which is so crazy,” she said.

Whatever the reason for her issues with social media, carrying a personal mantra on your phone where you’ll regularly see it is a great practice.
