French figure skating partners Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac have SO much chemistry on the ice
Mixing work and romance can be risky. But sometimes, it can be very worth it. While Romain Le Gac wasn’t Marie-Jade Lauriault’s first ice skating partner, he’ll probably be her last — especially because they’re married now. And seeing their chemistry on the ice is just one of the many reasons why they’re a couple to watch during the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Lauriault started skating at the age of five. But the 22-year-old skater from Quebec didn’t take the sport too seriously until she began training under Coach Pascal Denis, focusing her efforts in the art of ice dancing when she was eight.
She began her couples skating career partnered with Pierre-Richard Chiasson, whom she skated with until 2014. She was then introduced to Le Gac, 22, who had been skating since the age of six.
Love bloomed pretty quick.
The couple married in 2015, around a year after they began working together professionally. In the same interview, Lauriault noted that the key to success in both their marriage and their skating has been knowing when to separate them.
Lauriault wasn’t Le Gac’s first skating partner. He went to the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics with Estelle Elizabeth, whom he skated with until 2015. According to Ice Network, the pair split when Le Gac moved to Montreal in 2014.
We can’t wait to see this pair perform at the 2018 Winter Olympics. You can find a list of skating air times here.
