Wednesday night, there was a pretty heated (and also HILARIOUS) exchange between a CNN anchor and Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump’s lawyer. This now-viral moment has got all of us talking a lot about ~polls~.
Later on that night, former White House press secretary and current co-host of The Five on Fox News, Dana Perino, also brought up polls. But in doing so, she did something pretty controversial, and also super honest, and we continue to love every second of it.
On the show, Perino’s cohost Eric Bolling claimed that the polls regarding the presidential race aren’t a good measure of the support for Republican candidate Donald Trump, and that attendance at his rallies is, in fact, a better indicator of how he’s doing.
“These polls, Dana, honestly, we have to stop with these polls. They’re insane with the polls.” Bolling explained. “Just look at what’s going on. You look at a Trump rally, and there’s 12, 15,000, 10,000 people, and then you look at Hillary Clinton and you have, I don’t know, 1,500, 2,000, but that speaks volumes to me versus a poll 82 days out.”
However, Perino disagreed — so much so that she cut Bolling off to say, “You can’t. You cannot believe, Eric.”
She cautioned, “It’s a real disservice to his supporters to lie to them that those polls don’t matter. You cannot take 12,000 people at a rally that are your definite supporters, they are going to show up the campaign, and then say the polls are wrong. It’s just not fair. It’s not fair to them.”
Bolling maintained that polls taken via phone call aren’t an accurate representation of who will show up at the polls, or the enthusiasm of voters.
Later than evening, she took to Twitter to elaborate on her point of view, first telling her followers, “I will never lie to you.”
Perino then cautioned against the complacency that can come with dismissing polls — that complacency, she infers, loses elections.
Perino went on to say that no matter what people say, she will not lie to her viewers.
No matter what your political views, Dana Perino’s ability to stand up to her co-host and commitment to telling the truth is truly admirable. 👏
