Epcot is getting its first roller coaster ever — and it'll be "Guardians of the Galaxy"-themed
The Guardians of the Galaxy are officially set to make Epcot their new home. Over the past few years, Disney has teased a plethora of brand new attractions coming to its U.S. parks, like the upcoming Pixar Pier and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but the company has been largely tight-lipped about its upcoming Marvel attractions. During the D23 Expo last summer, it was revealed that a new ride based on Guardians of the Galaxy was coming to Disney World, but we’ve been left speculating for months about what it would be.
That is, until now…
In a blog post, Disney Parks confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy ride is going to be a roller coaster! But the Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster isn’t just going to be another roller coaster. Rather, it will be one of the *biggest* in the world — and it’s coming to Epcot, making it the park’s first roller coaster ever. After previewing the upcoming ride at D23 in Japan over the weekend, Disney Parks revealed that the Guardians roller coaster will be one of the longest enclosed roller coasters in the world.
Now we can venture to Norway, Canada, Morocco, Italy, Mexico, and go on an out-of-this-world adventure with Star-Lord, Gamora, and the rest of the gang.
The attraction is expected to open in 2021, in time for Disney World’s 50th anniversary.
The inclusion of the Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster at Epcot is an attempt by Disney Parks at bringing new life to the often seemingly outdated park. Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts echoed the sentiments in a statement. He said, “As we build upon its core mission of optimism and hope to inspire the world, the real will become fantastic and the fantastic will become real — in whole new ways at Epcot.”
We can’t believe we have to wait until 2021 to see this brand new roller coaster, but we have a feeling it’s going to mark a brand new era for Epcot.
