Like so many other celebrities right now, Elle Fanning is figuring out ways to make use of her time spent in self-quarantine due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The star of Hulu’s upcoming miniseries The Great decided to try an at-home dye job, taking her signature baby blonde strands to the prettiest shade of pink, giving fans a glimpse of her new hue on Instagram Stories.

With salons closed for the foreseeable future and stylists practicing social distancing, it seems Fanning took matters into her own hands to transform her blonde hair into a candy-colored pink. It was a potentially risky move, but the result looks amazing. Fanning first showed off her freshly dyed hair in a bathroom selfie on March 25th, seemingly right after washing it. And it’s definitely inspiring us to try our own at-home hair transformations while we’re hunkered down.

For reference, here’s the Maleficent star just a week ago with vibrant blonde hair, sharing that she’s staying home for her grandmother, Mary Jane, and that her followers should do the same. She wrote, “Healthy carriers could be endangering or even causing the deaths of the most vulnerable: people 65 and up and people with underlying conditions.”

And here’s Fanning’s brand-new pink hair look, which she showed off in two separate posts on Instagram Stories.

She’s also spending time in the kitchen, whipping up some spaghetti bolognese—which she shared with fans while also showing off her new pink hair after it dried.

Fanning didn’t share with fans the exact products she used to get the peachy pink hue. But if you’re inspired, there are great at-home hair dye options that won’t break the bank and will wash out by the time we’re out of quarantine life.

For a super temporary transformation, try L’Oréal Paris’ Colorista 1-Day Hair Color Spray in “Pastel Pink,” which washes out after one wash. Kristin Ess’s Rose Gold Temporary Tint will last a bit longer (around a week or so). And Lime Crime’s Unicorn Hair Tint in “Bunny” is perfect if you’re looking for a more permanent change.

This isn’t the first time Fanning has tried on pink strands for size.

Back in 2016, she debuted the prettiest shade of dusty rose created by her longtime stylist, Jenda Alcorn.

In 2018, she sported a shade of bubblegum pink, which was equally gorgeous.

If you’re looking for a way to combat quarantine boredom—and to try on a brand-new look—take one glimpse at Fanning’s Instagram and you’ll find heaps of hair color inspiration.
