This Egyptian lawmaker wants to require all women who want to go to college to first prove their virginity, and we are NOT HAPPY
Get ready for your feminist heart to burst into flames, because, apparently, an Egyptian lawmaker has hopes to force all women who plan to go to college in Egypt go through a mandatory virginity test, and we are SO ANGRY RIGHT NOW. Like, seriously? In what world is something as blatantly sexist (and straight up disgusting) as this even close to okay?
According to the Washington Post, Elhamy Agina, a member of Egyptian Parliament, expects women to prove that they’re virgins before they enter higher education.
In a translation of a statement Agina gave to Egypt’s Youm 7 newspapers by EgyptianStreets.com, Agina argues,
In an interview with Egyptian Streets, Agina explained,
Proving that he has no idea how ~the modern woman~ thinks. We’re just, like, UGH, YOU GUYS. Proving virginity? Really? This is so disturbing, so sexist, and so unfair. We hope that the rest of parliament pushes back against this ridiculous suggestion.
