We already know that Ed Sheeran is a talented singer-songwriter, and now we can add generous human to the list as well.  Sheeran found housing for several homeless  boys during his trip to Liberia as part of Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.

In a video that captured moments from his trip, he’s visibly overwhelmed by a group of young boys who lost their parents to the Ebola virus, sleep on the streets, and survive on water and bits of bread each day. After talking to a spirited boy named JD and learning his life ambitions, Sheeran decided that he couldn’t leave until some sort of housing situation was figured out.

Sheeran was adamant about helping the boys so that they can attend school and have a proper future. “It doesn’t matter how much it costs,” he told his crew. “Can we just get him and his five mates in a house with an older person to look after them? I don’t think we can go until that’s sorted.” And that’s what he did; he used his resources to secure housing for them.

As Sheeran emphasized in the video, there are millions of children who are homeless and in desperate need of care so that they can go to school and have access to all the things so many of us take for granted.

And there’s more work to be done. Any gesture — big or small — will help these communities. If you’re interested in donating to Red Nose Day and its mission to help children in need, you can donate here.
