Demi Lovato's no-makeup selfie shows off her "booty chin"—which is exactly the point
Demi Lovato is keeping things balanced on Instagram. On Monday, Lovato posted a no-makeup selfie to give her 77 million followers a taste of her day-to-day look after sharing a series of photos of herself in full makeup. The 27-year-old singer noted that she’s “proud” of the acceptance she has for herself and her appearance, so it seems like this photo is as much for Lovato as it is for her fans—especially if you’ve heard her past comments on body acceptance.
“Haven’t done a #NoMakeupMonday in yearssss but I figured after posting so many glamorous pics with tons of makeup and hair pieces, it’s important to show myself underneath it all,” Lovato captioned her photo. “This is what I look like 85%-90% of the time.”
“Proud of my freckles, proud of booty chin and proud of myself for loving and accepting myself the way I am. 🖤 #ILoveMe,” Lovato added.
And she’s proud of herself in makeup, too. The previous day, Lovato posted two selfies after getting her makeup professionally done. “2 selfies, 1 day.. can’t help it,” she captioned one of the posts. “Mama’s feeling herself cause her glam team killed these lewks todayyyyy.”
For Lovato, posting a makeup-free picture isn’t about preaching that you have to love how you look—with or without makeup—but rather the importance of accepting yourself as you are. This is something she’s learned more recently herself. In a February 18th interview on Ashley Graham’s podcast, Pretty Big Deal, Lovato spoke about how a dietician she worked with for her disordered eating recovery suggested she focus on “body acceptance” rather than “body positivity.”
The “Anyone” singer previously commented on body acceptance back in September when she Instagrammed her “biggest fear”: “a photo of me in a bikini unedited.”
After explaining that she’s done trying to live up to society’s beauty standards and her relief at no longer participating in “crazy diet shit,” she wrote, “Just so everyone’s clear. I’m not stoked on my appearance BUT I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do. I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too.”
Still, Lovato noted that her new outlook is “CELLULIT!!!!” Can’t argue with that! And neither could the 9.9 million people who liked the photo.
So, makeup, makeup-free, loving your bodies, or just living with them, anyone can take a positive message from Lovato latest selfie on their own journey to self acceptance. It’s all part of the cellulit lifestyle.
