Earlier this week, rumors circulated that Deadpool 2 would undergo reshoots after fans at test screenings reacted poorly to the film. But while the reshoots were apparently based on fan reactions to the film, they weren’t to save Deadpool 2 from becoming the latest mess of a superhero film. According to Collider’s Steven Weintraub, the Deadpool 2 reshoots are actually set to give more screen time to two fan-favorites.

In a Collider video posted to YouTube, Weintraub revealed that thanks to these reshoots, we’ll be seeing a lot more of Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) in the film. According to his sources (made up of both Deadpool insiders and people who attended the test screenings), Deadpool 2 actually received very positive reviews from fans. But Weintraub added that viewers at both screenings had the same notes: more Cable and Domino.

Weintraub reiterated that the reshoots were not to save a “train wreck” of a film.

Rather, 20th Century Fox would use the reshoots to give fans more of what they want and attempt to give the film an advantage as it prepares to open between two other highly anticipated blockbusters — Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

When Deadpool opened in theaters in February 2016, it became an instant smash hit, both critically and commercially. The film’s success paved the way for star Ryan Reynolds, a longtime champion of the project who also produced and co-wrote the film, to further explore the world of the R-rated superhero — and a third film is reportedly in the works.

So now we can all sleep a bit easier, knowing Deadpool 2 isn’t going to be a massive dumpster fire. Woohoo! The film is set to open in theaters on May 18th.
