Get ready to set your clocks forward. It’s almost Daylight Savings Time, which means there’s an abundance of Daylight Savings memes we must share with you. But before we get to that, there’s a little bit of housekeeping to attend to.
The annual time-shifting event starts tomorrow, March 11th at 2 a.m., so make sure to push your clocks forward before going to bed. It’s true that we’ll all lose an hour of sleep, but we’re also gaining an hour of sunlight — which means winter is finally almost over!
This marks the 100th year of Daylight Savings Time in the United States, which adapted DST during World War I to help save fuel by providing more sunlight during waking hours. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce also found DST to be good for the economy. The later it stayed light in the evenings, the more time Americans would have to spend money at local businesses. So, although DST was initially created for just one year, several parts of the U.S. continued to practice it and it was officially recognized by the Uniform Time Act in 1966. (However, certain places in the U.S. don’t do DST, so consider moving there if you just can’t deal with it anymore.)
However, the practice of DST isn’t without its fair share of controversy and general confusion, especially because it affects some people differently than others. And what do people do in these types of situations? They take to the internet to express their thoughts in the form of hilarious memes, and we’re totally here for it.
