We’ve been anxiously waiting to see what actress and Emmy Award-winning writer Lena Waithe does next. And the same goes for Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya, who recently appeared in Black Panther. Now it seems our dreams are coming true, because Kaluuya and Waithe are officially working together on a new movie called Queen & Slim.

According to The Hollywood ReporterKaluuya will star as Slim in the upcoming project, which will feature a script written by Waithe, and is based on an idea from Million Little Pieces writer James Frey. The casting directors have yet to find the movie’s Queen.

Slim & Queen will also bring some serious star power to the director’s chair. Melina Matsoukas, the director behind both Insecure and Beyoncé’s “Formation” music video, is set to helm the project. Matsoukas also previously worked with Waithe on the Master of None episode “Thanksgiving,” according to Time.com. It will be her first time directing a feature-length film.

Variety.com reports that the movie’s plot will center on a black couple who go on the run after killing a white police officer in self-defense when they are pulled over at a traffic stop. Waithe described the project as “protest art.”

"To me, this is protest art,” she told Variety. “It’s about being black and trying to fall in love in a world that’s burning down around you.

She later tweeted, “This is literally the blackest thing I’ve ever written. Hope y’all dig it.”

Matsoukas also issued a statement.

"It’s a film that defines Black love as a revolutionary act," she told Deadline. "It shows that our union is the greatest weapon against the assault on Black people in America."

Production on Queen & Slim will begin in January 2019, and it’s scheduled to be released on November 27th, 2019. We already can’t wait.
