Nominees were given "consolation puppies" at the 2018 Grammys
During big awards shows, we celebrate the winners — but the reality is there are tons of talented people in the room who don’t take home trophies. So in order to lighten the mood, James Corden offered “consolation puppies” at the 2018 Grammys. All of a sudden, losing doesn’t sound so bad.
“I should say to all the nominees who are not going home with a Grammy — I don’t want anyone to be upset tonight so the good news is nobody goes home empty handed because all night we will be handing out consolation puppies,” Corden told the audience. “So if you didn’t get a Grammy, you get a puppy.”
The puppies were specifically given out to the nominees for Best Comedy Album. While Dave Chappelle ultimately nabbed the honor, Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman, and Jim Gaffigan were also in the running. So really, we wouldn’t say they lost out on anything.
Corden personally passed out the pups, warning Seinfeld, “Be careful, that’s Roxy, she’s a biter,” and noting that Gaffigan’s puppy may not be potty trained yet.
As you can tell, Seinfeld was having the time of his life.
Just knowing there were consolation puppies in the room made a lot of celebrities happy. Anna Kendrick tweeted that she managed to spot one.
The crowd watching at home had mixed feelings about the puppies. Some felt it made the show.
Others weren’t as thrilled with the idea of puppies being handed out as prizes.
Needless to say, we hope all those doggos are given out to loving families. And also, we volunteer!
