This giant 120-pound doggo had to be carried down a mountain after he got tired — like the king he is
Summer is almost here, which means it’s the perfect time to get outside and take in the majesty of nature. But it’s easy to have a little too much fun in the sun this season, and the high temperatures can be dangerous. One Colorado dog learned it the hard way when he had to be rescued on a hike through the mountains.
On June 3rd, a Great Pyrenees named Kato went hiking with his humans on Maxwell Falls trail near Evergreen, Colorado. About a mile from the trailhead, the poor pup lay down, too tired to go on. But Kato’s owners couldn’t lift the 120-pound dog to carry him back down, so they had to call for backup.
The Evergreen Fire Rescue responded to the “dog in distress” call and carried Kato down the mountain using a stretcher — just like they would do for a human patient.
Once he was rescued, the dehydrated pupper was able to recover. And yes, there are pictures.
And Twitter users celebrated the fire rescue workers for their heroism.
The humans who made sure this story has a happy ending deserve a round of applause. And as for Kato, we think he deserves a nap and a belly rub — he must be pretty doggone tired. Stay safe out there this summer.
