Coca-Cola is releasing a new clear Coke, but you'll have to hop on an international flight to try it
You’ve heard of Crystal Pepsi, but if you’re a Coke drinker, you’ll like this drink way better. Coca-Cola is releasing clear Coke this month and it looks amazing, but there’s a major downside: you’ll only be able to get it if you’re in Japan.
According to Kotaku, Coca-Cola Japan will officially release Coca-Cola Clear on June 11th. The company’s drink-makers created 50 samples of different flavor combinations until they found exactly the right one, and now that they’ve mastered it, they’re ready to ship the bottles off to stores.
The new drink was reportedly developed entirely by Coca-Cola Japan, so it makes sense that it’s not also launching in the U.S. (as bummed as we are about that fact).
But while Crystal Pepsi is just colorless Pepsi, this drink is totally different — it’s zero calories and lemon flavored, making it a new soda entirely. What?!
Asian news site Sora News had the chance to taste test the drink, and reporters had nothing but positive things to say.
“We took a good gulp, sat back to assess the flavor, and were surprised to find…it tasted just like Coca-Cola!” the site reads. “There was a hint of lemon, which the company said it added as a refreshing accent, but the distinct Coke taste was there, packing bagfuls of flavor just like the more common dark-colored variety.”
Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like the company has any plans to bring this drink over to the U.S., so if you want to give it a try, you’re probably going to have to buy a plane ticket…or find someone in Japan who’s willing to ship you a bottle or two. No matter what you have to do to get your hands on it, it sounds delicious. Coke with lemon? Ahhhhh…
Let’s just hope that Coke decides to treat us to some new flavors in the U.S. soon. We’re so jealous, Japan!
