Everything to know about Coachella wristband activation, because it's an oddly tricky process
Once upon a time in the “olden days” of Coachella, you could sneak into the festival by sliding a wristband off someone’s hand and onto your own. Obviously, we don’t recommend this, unless you want to get turned away and stuck in the middle of the desert for a few hours, so we suggest buying a Coachella pass the legitimate way. If you want into the festival, you need a bonafide wristband, and a bonafide wristband needs to be activated. They don’t make the Coachella wristband activation an easy process, so we’ve combed through the site, the FAQ’s, and the Coachella message boards to break down the wristband activation process for you.
Coachella will begin to roll out social media posts in the weeks leading up to the big event to remind you to activate your wristband, but if you want to get a head start, here’s how to activate your wristband now.
After you have an account, log in to the Coachella app on your phone, which is the only place where you can activate your wristband.
Once you’re logged into the app, the landing page will ask you to activate your wristband (you can skip this if you plan to sell your wristband). Make sure you have selected the correct weekend, enter your first and last name, and then enter the six character code located on the back of the plastic portion of the wristband and hit submit.
If you are still receiving an error code, try updating your phone’s software to the latest issue, then deleting and re-installing the Coachella app. There is also a help booth at the entrance to the festival if you can’t activate prior to the event. Happy ‘chella-ing!
