The glitter dreamland that is Claire’s has pulled a line of makeup after allegations that the makeup contains asbestos. The items in question are the bedazzled rainbow heart set and the metallic hot pink glitter makeup.

A Rhode Island resident, Kristi Warner, made the complaint and sent her daughter’s glitter makeup kit to a lab last Friday. The lab came back with positive results of tremolite asbestos, the cancer-causing material usually found in houses built up to 30 years ago. Claire’s responded to these lab results by sending the rest of the makeup line for testing as well, and has given full refunds to those who purchased the kit.

Warner was suspicious of the glitter kit because it actually falls in her line of work. Luckily, she works at a law firm that specializes in asbestos class-action lawsuits, which made her aware of the dangers within the makeup that was gifted to her daughter.

Honestly, it doesn’t seem like it. Companies make mistakes like this and recalls happen all the time, but what if the makeup hadn’t fallen in the hands of a person who specializes in asbestos detection? How many people would have been effected?

While you hate to see parts of your childhood go up in flames, it’s great that Claire’s is taking responsibility for the mistakes they’re making and taking action to keep everyone safe. Justice for tweens!
