So many Golden Globes viewers had no idea Christian Bale is British, and Twitter needs a moment
If you didn’t have a chance to tune into the 2019 Golden Globes, the biggest shock of the night perhaps came when Christian Bale reminded everyone that he’s actually British. The actor delivered a speech after winning the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of Dick Cheney in Vice. The 44-year-old has expertly played so many American characters over the course of his career that people genuinely forgot he’s not a U.S. native.
Here’s a clip of Bale’s acceptance speech to have you shook all over again.
Bale is from Pembrokeshire, Wales. His parents are both British, and yes, you’ll probably forget all this again by the time we hear him speak at the next awards show. He’s that convincing. However, if you were surprised to learn his nationality during the Globes, you’re not alone. Fans immediately flocked to Twitter to confess that they, too, were confused when Bale opened his mouth on stage.
Moral of the story is be such a good actor that people forget who you really are. And congrats on your big win, Mr. Bale.
