Carvel's Fudgie the Whale just got turned into a beer, because nothing is sacred
Excuse us while we take a moment to gather ourselves because this announcement has us feeling a little verklempt — and also a bit confused. As of May 30th, a collaboration between Carvel and Captain Lawrence Brewing Company has officially hit the Beer Hall shelves. Let us introduce you to “Fudgie the Beer.” Yes, that’s right. Carvel’s forever-nostalgic Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake is now a beer. It looks like our little Fudgie is all grown up.
According to the Captain Lawrence Brewing Company website, this new chocolate stout beer is “brewed with Carvel signature chocolate crunchies and fudge.” Fudgie the Beer’s flavor is described as having “smooth cocoa notes with a roasted crunchies finish.”
The collaboration between Carvel and Captain Lawrence, both of which have roots in New York’s Hudson Valley, came about when Carvel approached Captain Lawrence with the idea of co-creating a “Fudgie the Father’s Day Float,” FoodAndWine.com reports.
So yes — alongside the limited-edition release of Fudgie the Beer, starting on June 6th and for a limited time, Captain Lawrence will also serve Fudgie the Beer stout milkshakes at the brewery’s Elmsford, New York beer pub.
Listen, we were skeptical about our Fudgie becoming a beer. But we have to admit — we like the sound of that Fudgie milkshake.
To try Fudgie the Beer for yourself (or gift your dad with the Frankenstein Fudgie creation), you’ll have to head to Captain Lawrence’s Beer Hall before the fewer than 100 cases of the 16-ounce cans sell out.
Although nothing can replace the original Fudige the Whale, it’s always fun when nostalgia comes to visit us in our adulthood.
