If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Cardi B is as real as it gets. In between launching her album Invasion of Privacy and announcing her pregnancy, the rapper also recently found time to sit down with Rolling Stone, where she discussed everything from motherhood, to baby showers, to why she initially considered an abortion when she first found out she was pregnant.
The 25-year-old noted that at first, she wasn’t sure what she was going to do when the pregnancy test came back positive. For his part, her fiancé Offset was thrilled and instantly assumed they would have the baby together. “He said, ‘What do you mean, what are you going to do? You’re going to keep it,'” Cardi told the magazine.
Cardi went on to say that her close friends and team were also apprehensive about the pregnancy news. “It was like, ‘You can’t do this. This might fuck up your career,'” she recalled. She was even nervous to tell her label, fearing they might wonder if a pregnancy would interfere with her upcoming album.
In the end, she followed her gut and decided to do what felt most right for her on her terms.
Meanwhile, Offset made it abundantly clear that he would never assume or expect Cardi to sacrifice her career for motherhood, and that he wants her to have it all.
We applaud Cardi B for her candidness on this issue. All too often, women feel alone and isolated when considering abortion, despite the fact that it’s an extremely common experience. Cardi is helping break down the stigma, and has helped bring a critical conversation into the spotlight.
