A Britney Spears musical is happening, but it has a wild twist
It’s Broadway, bitch! The music of Britney Spears will feature in Once Upon a One More Time, a new musical that’s headed to the stage this fall. Written by Jon Hartmere (The Upside, Bare) and directed by Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages), the show follows the exploits of a group of fairy tale princesses who’ve gathered for a book club meeting—only to have a copy of Betty Friedan’s feminist touchstone The Feminine Mystique dropped into the mix by “a rogue fairy godmother.”
The show, which will feature choreography by World of Dance stars Keone and Mari Madrid, will open on November 13th at James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago before ultimately heading to New York City.
“Throughout her career, Britney has captivated fans across the globe with her singular brand of energy and resilience,” said producer James L. Nederlander. “For three years, we have been working closely with her to develop a concept that perfectly encapsulates her unique spirit, and are so thrilled to finally bring this joyous and electrifying show to the stage.”
