Here are the best responses to that sexist Tweet about Olympian Corey Cogdell-Unrein
Over the weekend, Olympic athlete Corey Cogdell-Unrein won the bronze medal for U.S.A. in the women’s trap shooting event.
Cogdell-Unrein has competed in the Olympics THREE TIMES and has won TWO bronze metals for the U.S.A. women’s team.
These are examples of necessary facts to include when reporting on Cogdell-Unrein’s victory. An unnecessary fact — though, I’m sure, a very a happy one for the athlete in her personal life — is that she is married to another great athlete, Mitchell Unrein, a lineman for the Chicago Bears.
I wonder why, then, when announcing Cogdell-Unrein’s bronze medal on Twitter, the Chicago Tribune found HER OWN NAME to be irrelevant, instead referring to her as Bears’ lineman’s wife.
(It’s because of sexism — that’s why)
Thankfully, Twitter was not about to let Chicago Tribune get away with this partriarchal nonsense.
WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN???
Is this how the Chicago Tribune would report a Hillary Clinton presidency?
Beyonce would NOT be having this.
Really droppin’ the ball on your reporting, Tribune.
Thank you, Twitter.
