Danai Gurira gave an update about the rumored all-female Avengers — and seriously, Marvel, what's the holdup?
Avengers: Infinity War hasn’t even officially hit theaters yet, but fans are already clamoring for more. And they’re not demanding just another superhero-packed film; they want an ALL-FEMALE AVENGERS MOVIE. And like, why not? If there’s anything better than your favorite heroes duking it out with villains, it’s an all-girl squad kicking ass and getting things done.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Danai Gurirai (aka leader of the Wakanda warriors, Okoye) addressed the rumors of an all-female Avengers outing that may or may not happen in the future.
The call for a female-packed feature has been brewing for some time and gained even more steam back in November, when Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan posted a photo to Instagram of just a handful of Marvel’s kickass ladies. Fans understandably got so excited and started to speculate about a possible future film where these badass women are all included.
In a December 2017 interview, Gillan revealed that upon a suggestion by Larson, the ladies actually pitched the idea to Marvel execs, and they were actually on board.
He continued, saying, “It is all about figuring out when and how. But by the way, many of them have already filmed additional scenes in upcoming movies, so some of that is gonna come sooner rather than later. All of them will be seen again.”
So there you have it, people! You heard it from the Marvel president himself! He’s open to the idea, so it’s highly possible that we may see an all-female Avengers movie sooner rather than later.
While we wait for that to happen, let’s first feast over Avengers: Infinity War, which opens in theaters this Friday, April 27th.
