Ariana Grande dropped a 33-second tease of her next single, and we're already emotional listening to it
Today may be Ariana Grande’s 25th birthday, but she just gave us a gift in the form of a short teaser from her forthcoming album, Sweetener. The singer, who teased her latest single, “The Light Is Coming,” featuring Nicki Minaj, on social media before its release, took to Twitter to share that she wanted to give fans a little surprise for her birthday — noting that it’s likely the last tease fans will get from Sweetener before its release in August.
“i know we’re not really doing snippets but i do wanna give u sum special for my birthday if that’s ok …. might post it tonight . i promise this’ll be the last of it,” Grande revealed Monday morning.
And at exactly midnight, the singer released a 33-second preview of a music video for a track from the upcoming album, accompanied by a link to pre-order Sweetener. While Grande didn’t release the title to the track featured in the video, based on the lyrics, many fans believe it to be “Raindrops.”
The video, which begins upside down, à la “No Tears Left To Cry,” features the singer sitting on a long set of stone stairs, putting her powerful vocals on display.
A cappella, Grande sings, “When raindrops fell down from the sky, the day you left me an angel cried. Oh, she cried. She cried.”
While the sneak peek at “Raindrops” may be the last formal teaser from Sweetener, the singer has been sharing details from her upcoming fourth studio album with fans on Twitter, revealing that she’s “never been more excited [about] anything.”
The singer also revealed her mother Joan and brother Frankie’s favorite tracks from the album, as well as the meaning behind her song “God Is A Woman.” She tweeted, “sexual female empowerment & how women are literally everything & the universe is inside of us tbh.”
Thanks to her many sneak peeks of Sweetener, we couldn’t be more excited about the album, which will be released on August 17th!
