This isn't hocus pocus: Anne Hathaway has been cast in the remake of The Witches
Anne Hathaway’s newest role is the stuff of magic. The Ocean’s 8 actress has been cast in Warner Bros’ adaptation of The Witches, based on Roald Dahl’s 1983 novel of the same name. Hathaway will take on the role of Grand High Witch, portrayed by Anjelica Huston in the 1990 film adaptation. The newest adaptation will be helmed by Back to the Future’s Robert Zemeckis, Roma’s Alfonso Cuaron, and The Shape of Water’s Guillermo del Toro.
The Witches follows a 7-year-old who discovers that a society of children-hating witches secretly exist throughout the country. Its author, Roald Dahl, wrote many other children’s classics, including The BFG, Matilda, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which have also been adapted for the big screen. News of Zemeckis’ adaptation was released in June 2018.
Fans were undeniably spellbound by the film news.
A release date for The Witches has not been confirmed yet, nor has additional casting info. Hathaway will star next in the drama thriller Serenity alongside Matthew McConaughey, in theaters January 25th.
We only wonder if Anne will don Anjelica’s terrifying prosthetic nose.
