Wands at the ready, friends, because every single Harry Potter movie is headed back to theaters in celebration of the most important anniversary in the history of the Wizarding World: The groundbreaking series’ inception.
Two decades ago this September, the U.S. edition of J.K. Rowling’s magical debut novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, officially hit bookshelves. Yes, it’s been 20 years since the very first American readers discovered the Boy Who Lived and his journey at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. To celebrate the book that launched one of the most iconic franchises in history, Cinemark XD is holding a nationwide Harry Potter marathon featuring all of the Harry Potter film adaptations.
Dubbed Wizarding World XD Week, the marathon will run from August 31st through September 6th at each of Cinemark XD’s 141 theaters across the U.S. The festival will feature screenings of all eight Harry Potter films, as well as the first installment in the Newt Scamander spin-off film series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Harry Potter loyalists looking to watch all nine movies can purchase a pass for the week-long event for $25, while tickets for individual screenings are also available. Viewers who opt in for the marathon pass will also receive a commemorative keychain, refillable cup, and a badge (but hopefully not a leftover “Potter Stinks” badge from the Triwizard Tournament).
In true Harry Potter fashion, the 20th anniversary of the first novel’s release just so happens to coincide with the 20th anniversary of one of the most important events to take place within the novel. Earlier this summer marked 20 years since the famous Battle of Hogwarts, which saw Voldemort finally defeated in the final Harry Potter novel, The Deathly Hallows.
So pack up those trunks and pour yourself a celebratory butterbeer, because we’re heading back to Hogwarts. Again (because this is important!), Wizarding World XD Week runs August 31st through September 6th at Cinemark XD theaters nationwide.
