A “9 to 5” reboot might actually happen — and Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, AND Lily Tomlin are all on board
Listen, in this day and age, pretty much every classic film or TV series has a chance of getting the modern-day treatment. Whether it be the Goldie Hawn classic Overboard or Ghostbusters being turned into a female-lead comedy, pretty much everything seems to be on the reboot table, and that’s pretty awesome. Because now, a 9 to 5 reboot might actually happen! And better yet, Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin are all on board, according to the country legend herself.
"We're trying to get the script and all that," Parton said of the potential reboot on ABC's Nightline. "Everybody is very interested and we've all agreed that we'd love to do it if it's right."
So, not only will the new movie have an inspiring plot line, like the original, but it will also feature the same three iconic actresses who helped make 9 to 5 the classic it is?! Um, YES PLEASE. And if you ask us, another go at 9 to 5 is exactly what the world needs right now…
Because according to Deadline, "20th Century Fox is in the early stages of a new version that would focus on three young women dealing with sexism and chauvinism in the workplace, who turn to the original trio for help in navigating and getting even with the [coarse] male higher-ups."
In the original movie, Parton, Fonda, and Tomlin play three secretaries who work in an extremely sexist environment and whose boss eventually tries to blackmail Parton’s character into having sex with him. Then, the badassery begins.
But that’s not all that makes this newest reboot exciting. Alongside the three actresses will be Rashida Jones, working on the film’s script!
So while the new film is still in the very early stages, the odds of it actually happening are looking good. I’m not going to promise y’all that it’s happening…but, like, Dolly and co. really want it to happen. And that has to be a good thing.
