Ariana Grande’s latest single, “7 Rings” finally dropped on January 18th, and within hours it was already at the top of the iTunes charts (the video has been viewed over 12 million times on YouTube). The song was initially met with tons of positive fan reactions and a wealth of excited social media posts. However, a few astute listeners soon noticed that “7 Rings” sounds a lot like several other popular songs from other artists, and Twitter is officially calling Grande out.

The first sound-alike to make the rounds was “Pretty Boy Swag” by Soulja Boy. It was (hilariously) pointed out by news anchor Demetria Obilor during an ABC Dallas morning news cast.

Do you hear it? The second major song that “7 Rings” sounds suspiciously close to is Princess Nokia’s “Mine.” The singer pointed the similarities out herself in a January 18th tweet:

Princess Nokia is also clearly calling Grande out on potential cultural appropriation—something many on Twitter are also discussing today.

Grande has yet to address the criticism, although she did post this pretty cryptic message to her Twitter page (it’s unclear, though, if this has anything to do with the current backlash).
