There’s nothing quite like pulling an Olivia Pope and having a nice glass of wine (or two) after a long day. But, does wine actually help us unwind after a stressful day? In one of the most amazing photography experiments we’ve seen all year, Brazilian photographer Marcos Alberti proved that wine really can help us relax.

On his website, Alberti revealed that he wanted to see if the old saying about wine — “The first glass of wine is all about the food, the second glass is about love and the third glass is about mayhem” — was true.

Alberti subsequently invited a series of guests to his studio and the “Three Glasses Later Project” was born.

The photo series contains patterns that reveal a lot about the mentality of the subjects. For most of the subjects, the first photo, taken immediately after their arrival, looks the most reserved and posed. Most subjects aren’t quite settled yet, wearing jackets, and looking a bit reserved.

As they begin drinking the wine, each subsequent photo sees the subjects becoming more relaxed, slowly showing off their authentic personalities. On his website, Alberti revealed how the project shows the similarities in people from all backgrounds. He wrote,

This photo series is so uplifting because it shows the genuine joy of spending time with friends. The photos also prove how a little bit of wine can go a long way in helping us unwind and relax.
