17 Nowruz quotes you can use to celebrate the Persian New Year with your Instagram family
While some of us will celebrate the Spring Equinox with a breath of fresh air and a smile, Iranian people will vibrantly welcome in the Persian New Year, or Nowruz. Nowruz, meaning “new day” in Persian, is a 13-day festival during which those of Persian descent celebrate rebirth and the arrival of spring. And if you’re one of the many about to celebrate come March 20th, 2018 (at exactly 12:15 p.m. EST), then check out these Nowruz quotes you can use to celebrate via Instagram.
According to NPR, Nowruz begins at the exact moment when the sun crosses the equator during the vernal equinox. When this happens, Iranian families gather around the haft-seen, an altar where seven important items are on display — seeb (apple), seer (garlic), serkeh (vinegar), sonbol (hyacinth), samanu (sweet pudding), sabzeh (sprouts), and sekeh (coins).
The family haft-seen can also include the Quran, a mirror, painted eggs, and other s-named items. Some tables even include a goldfish in a bowl, which symbolizes life.
And, like every family holiday anywhere you go, Nowruz celebrations rely heavily on food. Soup with noodles, fish and herbed rice, and anything with fresh herbs can be spotted on the Nowruz dinner table.
When Nowruz kicks off tomorrow, March 20th, there will be a full 13 days of visiting friends and family, spring cleaning, eating, and beginning anew. So,if you’re a Nowruz celebrant who wants to share the love via Instagram or other social media platforms, check out the Nowruz quotes below to spice up your Persian New Year captions.
