13 Reasons Why, say hello to your new Season 2 tapes — or should I say polaroids? Because from our first look at the latest season, we’re leaving Hannah Baker’s tapes behind for good, but there is still so much more left to develop when it comes to her story. Get it? Develop? Like polaroid film? Sorry just trying to make some jokes so this trailer doesn’t make me cry, because it came damn near close to it!
Season 2 of the Netflix original smash hit — based on the book by the same name, that doesn’t have a sequel and/or Season 2 – picks up shortly after where we left off with Hannah’s suicide, and Clay getting to the end of the tapes. While Season 1 ended on a somewhat uplifting note, prepare to have your heart ripped out and shattered all over again. It would seem that in the aftermath of Hannah’s death, everyone who played a part in it is now under the microscope, as they “[prepare] to go on trial. But someone will stop at nothing to keep the truth surrounding Hannah’s death concealed.” Ominous much?
And yes, without tapes, Season 2 is going to use polaroids to tie the story today, as they “lead Clay and his classmates to uncover a sickening secret [about Hannah’s death] and a conspiracy to cover it up.”
From this date announcement teaser — which no, isn’t technically the first trailer for Season 2, so we still have that to look forward to — it’s clear that things have not gotten better for anyone. Jessica is still suffering from hella insecurities, Bryce is still being a d-bag, and Clay is just trying the best he can to keep it together. The adults are still in play too, as Hannah’s mom has gone all conspiracy-theory to figure out the events that lead to her daughter’s suicide, and Mr. Davis is now under the microscope too — remember, Hannah tried to talk to him, and he literally brushed her off.
So go ahead and start emotionally preparing your mind, body, and soul for Season 2. 13 Reasons Why Season 2 drops on Netflix on May 18th.
